A multi-residence private family is seeking an experienced House Manager to oversee the operations, staffing, and ongoing care of multiple large residences throughout the Rochester and Finger Lakes area
. Candidates should have demonstrated experience managing a household or estate portfolio of comparable size and complexity. Working closely with the Director of Residences, the House Manager will serve as a central point of coordination for household staff, vendors, property needs, and the principals.

This is a highly trusted position requiring discretion, sound judgment, initiative, and an exceptionally service-oriented approach. The successful candidate will naturally anticipate needs, manage multiple priorities, and provide elevated service while respecting the family’s privacy.

The family is ideally looking for a candidate who also brings a strong culinary background, though they are flexible for the perfect fit. The House Manager will regularly plan and prepare meals for the principals when in residence and the ideal candidate will be confident creating fresh, thoughtfully prepared meals, handling grocery shopping and kitchen organization. A professional culinary background is welcome, although a strong personal culinary skill set is equally valuable.

The family typically spends the summer season in the Rochester and Finger Lakes region, primarily between May and October. During these periods, the House Manager should expect a flexible schedule that may include extended days, evenings, weekends, and availability to respond to urgent household matters. The role also requires year-round emergency availability. When the principals are away, some responsibilities can be handled remotely while the House Manager continues to oversee properties, staff, vendors, and ongoing household needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee housekeeping staff, schedules, standards, and daily household operations.

  • Plan, shop for, and prepare fresh, high-quality meals tailored to the principals’ preferences and dietary needs.

  • Manage household purchasing, inventories, vendors, and supplies across all residences.

  • Coordinate property inspections, maintenance, contractors, and construction/design projects.

  • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise additional household staff.

  • Manage calendars, appointments, medications, travel, and other personal logistics.

  • Support events, pet care, family vehicles, and seasonal transitions between residences.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Residences and household team to ensure seamless service across all properties.

Qualifications

  • Significant senior-level private household or estate management experience, ideally across multiple properties.

  • Strong culinary skills and genuine enthusiasm for cooking, menu planning, and meal preparation; professional culinary experience is a plus but not required.

  • Discreet, polished, service-minded, and highly organized with excellent judgment.

  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

  • Tech-savvy and comfortable with Microsoft Office, digital calendars, and electronic records.

  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and perform routine physical household tasks.

  • Must sign an NDA as a condition of employment.

This position offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced household professional who enjoys both the operational and service-oriented sides of private estate management. The ideal candidate will bring confidence, initiative, culinary talent, and an unwavering commitment to discretion while ensuring the principals’ homes are impeccably maintained and their day-to-day needs are handled seamlessly across multiple residences.
